The admissions campaign at the Financial University is currently underway, and this year, over 44,000 applicants from across Russia have already submitted their applications. Among those dreaming of studying at the country's premier financial university is Alexey Proskurin. A graduate of School No. 1409, a gold medalist, an academic Olympiad prize winner, and a participant in a specialized program at the All-Russian Children's Center "Ocean," Alexey spoke with the university's press service about his journey toward his dream and how to conquer the fear of the Unified State Exam (EGE).
— Why did you choose the Financial University?
— The Financial University captured my heart back in the 10th grade. I started attending webinars, events, and meetings with prominent business leaders hosted right here. Many of my friends already study at the Financial University, and our school always recommended it as a reliable choice for higher education. My parents saw how much I wanted this and always supported my decision.
— Alexey, tell us a little about yourself. Where did you study, and what are your hobbies?
— I graduated from School No. 1409 with honors (a gold medal). Before moving to Moscow, I had quite a geographic journey: I lived and studied in Novosibirsk, Lipetsk, and Rostov-on-Don. I guess that taught me how to adapt quickly. As for hobbies, I swim, but my main passion is intellectual competitions, specifically academic Olympiads.
— Which school subjects came easily to you, and which required more effort?
— Humanities came most naturally to me. Social Studies was my favorite subject. I also really enjoyed Algebra. However, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology required much more diligence. These were the subjects where I had to really push myself and dedicate extra time.
— You mentioned Olympiads. Which ones did you participate in?
— My entire 11th grade was scheduled down to the hour. I participated in Olympiads such as "Mission Possible: Your Calling is a Financier!", "Vysshaya Proba" (Top Achievement), and the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics Olympiad. At the All-Russian Olympiad for Schoolchildren, I became a regional prize winner in Social Studies. I also took part in internal competitions at the Financial University, becoming a prize winner in the Young Accountants Olympiad and a winner of the nationwide financial markets competition, FinContest.
— How did you assess your chances for the Unified State Exam, and how did you prepare?
— I have achieved all the goals I set for myself. I prepared comprehensively: in addition to the standard school curriculum, I worked with tutors. The main secret is that I created a strict schedule and followed it meticulously so as not to miss a single topic.
— Which exam was the most difficult for you?
— I think Social Studies. It involves a massive amount of complex terminology and tricky question formulations that require a deep, nuanced understanding.
— Could you tell us more about your experience at the All-Russian Children's Center "Ocean"?
— That was one of the most memorable periods of my life. I attended a session there organized jointly with the Financial University. Olga Zhiltsova, an Associate Professor from the FinUniversity's Department of Logistics, conducted unique seminars for us on financial literacy, business analytics, and markets. I send her my warmest regards and thank her for those incredibly engaging lectures!
— Which program at the Financial University do you want to enroll in, and why?
— My top choice is the Faculty of International Economic Relations, specifically the "International Economics and Trade" program with an in-depth focus on China's economy and the Chinese language. I believe this field is highly promising right now.
— How do you see your future?
— For me, every project is not just a line on a resume, but a building block in the foundation of my reputation. In the near future, I want to work in a large company alongside a strong team of professionals, and eventually, I plan to start my own business.
The "International Economics and Trade" program is developed jointly with the Chinese multinational company Haier, which ranks 1st in Russia for large home appliance sales and is in the Top 100 most valuable global brands.
The double degree program is implemented jointly with the Institute of Northeast Asia at Jilin University under a 3+1 system: 3 years of study in Russia and the 4th year in China.
