Jean Monnet Module New Europe in the New International Order

Description of implemented activities 

Module New Europe in the New International Order of 60 hours, was innovative element of the Sociology of International Relations course in the third (2017-2018 educational) year and the second (2016-2017 educational) year and of Political Management course in first (2015-2016 edu​cational year). All these disciplines are included in the curriculum of the bachelor degree programs. 

 The module has been delivered to the group of 25 bachelor students of Faculty of Sociology and Political Science (during the third and second educational years) and 30  bachelor students of Faculty of Sociology and Political Science (during the first year). 

The syllabus of the module is focused on the theoretical debates and research on the relations of European Union with other parts of the world. The main methods of teaching and learrning are lectures and seminars. 

The interactive teaching instruments such as business game, discussions, round table sessions (on the topics of the international world order, security issues, migration, elections, energy issues and others) have been used in order to achieve better engagement of students in the learning process. 

During the lifetime of the module three main direction were at high interest among students: migration, elections, energy issues. All the students during 3 educational years have completed the module successfully and received the sufficient grades. 

Learning outcomes reflected in students's questionnary showed that the students enhanced their social science analytical skills, increased their ability to communicate; developed analytical thinking about key policy issues and progresses in the external relations to European Union. More than 85% of students have completed the module  with high marks. 

During the module four scientific events were organized: 3 round tables (during each educational) and 1 Conference in the first year of project realization to promote additionally the topic of European integration and in general ERASMUS+ programme.

Totally due to these events we managed to involve to the issues of European integration  about 300 participants.

The round tables have been conceived for enrichment of lecture material of the module, experience exchange and practical practices as among students, and expert community from other educational and scientific organizations.

Among experts who took part in the round tables, expert discussions and joint publications during three years were: honored professors of political sciences of Financial University (YA.A. Plyays, S.Yu.Belokonev, A.A.Brega, Yu.A.Mamaeva etc), MGIMO (I.Yu.Okunev, D.A.Kuznetsov, A.A.Tokarev etc.), RANEPA (Y. V.Irkhin, O.F.Shabrov etc.), RSSU (G.Yu.Nikiporets-Takigawa, M.M. Meyer) professors and experts from Austria, France, Germany, UK, Czech Republic, Bulgaria; representatives of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (Subbotin I.V. is the Head of Department of the all-European cooperation), Department of strategic estimates, Center of situation analysis of the Russian Academy of Sciences (S.V.Utkin – Ph.D. in Political Science, Head of the Center), the Center of support and development of public initiatives «Creative diplomacy» (N.V.Burlinova is the President of the Center) and others. 

During the lifetime of the project the professional community dealing with issues of european integration was created. The project allowed us to acquaint/present constantly new professionals and experts in the field to our students and acquaint them with topical issues of Europe. 

Team involved in the project and their role 

 

 

Our main team was based on the leaders in scientific and business sphere of Faculty sociology and political science:

Marina Rodionova – Ph.D. in Sociology, Associate Professor of the Department of S​ociology, Deputy Vice-Rector for projects​, coordinator of the project.

Sergey Belokonev - Ph.D. in Political Sciences,  Associate professor of the Department of Political Science, Head of the Department of Political Sciences

Yakov Plyays – D.Sc.  (Political Science), D.Sc. (Historical Sciences), Professor of the Department Sociology and Political Science, scientific adviser of the module, expert in the field of international relations, expert in the topic of new international order.

Igor Uskov – leading expert of National Energy Security Fund, lecturer of the Department of Political Science, one of the experts and academic supervisors  and  module instructors   in the topic of energy dialog between European Union and other world.

Yulia Mamaeva – Ph.D. in Political Science, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science, academic supervisors  and  module instructors.

Alexander Shatilov – Ph.D. in Political Sciences,  Associate professor of the Department of Political Science, Head of the Department of Sociology and Political Sciences.

Evgenia Machmutova - Ph.D. in Political Science, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science, academic supervisors  and  module instructors, participant of round table discussion. 

Our internal team allowed us to strengthen created professional community dealing  with issues of European  integration. 

Impact, visibility and dissemination

 

Students were constantly accumulating the scientific data and published their materials during the lifetime of the project. More than 20 best/strongest students published their articles (in «European research»&«European Scientific Conference»).

There were published more than 12 articles in leading Russian journals (including journals, recommended by the highest certifying commission) & participation in more than 8 scientific events (conferences/panel discussions, round table discussions etc.) by M.E.Rodionova.

There were also published three books by expert/professional community during the lifetime of the project under general editorship of coordinator of the project M.E.Rodionova (all publications, все публикации):

These books have been transferred to the library of the Financial University and recommended for use in educational process of the faculty of Sociology and Political Science. ​

Books have also gained distribution and obligatory mailing on the leading libraries of Russia by book chamber of the Russian Federation. In September 2018 books will participate in annually held central book exhibition in Moscow.Publications of created expert and professional community on European integration issues in printing editions will reach a wider public.
